The right type of EF Polymer depends on the use, the application method and soil conditions. We offer powder, micro-granule and granule to meet different farming needs. All three images are at the same scale: the bar under each one measures 10 mm.
Recommended use: seed trays, pots and mixing into substrate.
Recommended use: row-grown vegetables, applied with a micro-granule applicator.

Recommended use: open field, direct drilling and application with a spreader.
Why EF Polymer
EF Polymer is a superabsorbent polymer (SAP) that is 100 % natural in origin, made by upcycling inedible fruit residues such as orange peel. Being fully biodegradable, it is safe for the environment and is registered on the JAS organic input list (Japan) and with ECOCERT INPUT.
EF Polymer can absorb up to 50 times its own weight in water and acts as an effective soil conditioner. Mixed into the soil, it improves water retention and has shown up to 40 % less irrigation and 20 % savings in fertiliser in field trials. * Results vary by crop and conditions.
Key features of EF Polymer
4 benefits
Made from upcycled crop residues, such as orange peels, EF Polymer is fully biodegradable. Its water absorption and release function lasts up to 6 months or one crop cycle; after that it is broken down by microbial activity and returns to the soil within 1 year.
EF Polymer absorbs up to 50 times its weight in water and releases it slowly to the crop's roots. This prevents water and nutrient loss from the soil through leaching and supports healthy plant growth.
As it breaks down in the soil, EF Polymer stimulates microbial activity and supports the formation of aggregates. Its repeated cycles of water absorption and release create air spaces in the soil and further improve its structure.
By reducing the frequency of irrigation and fertilisation, EF Polymer helps cut growing costs. At the same time, better water and nutrient retention in the soil translates into stronger growth and higher yields.
Comparison: naturally sourced EF Polymer versus a petroleum-derived superabsorbent polymer (SAP).
| SAP for agriculture | EF Polymer (natural base) | Conventional SAP (petroleum) |
|---|---|---|
| Raw material | Upcycled crop residues, such as orange peels | Petroleum-derived polyacrylic acid |
| Biodegradability | Fully biodegrades in around 12 months | Does not biodegrade (breaks down into microplastics in the soil) |
| Organic certification | Registered on the JAS organic input list (Japan) | None (contains synthetic chemical compounds) |
| Formats | Available as powder (< 1 mm), micro-granule (1–2 mm) and granule (2–4 mm). |
